In "It's Bedtime, Joshua!," toddler Joshua refuses to accept that his bedtime has arrived. He imagines six lovable pet animals outside his window and briefly talks to them. Each animal describes his busy day and agrees that now is bedtime. Joshua does not understand how it can be bedtime when he still has many things to do. As the book porgresses and nighttime appears, Joshua imagines each animal as he performs his bedtime activities and becomes more tired. A warm, loving final sequence incorporates his mother in the final step of the ritual with resolution of the bedtime struggle.
